Over the past few days I have been reading the book of Ruth. I am always amazed at Ruth’s commitment to Naomi her mother in law throughout the book. When Ruth married into Naomi’s family I believe they both had great hopes and expectations for the future. They couldn’t see what was coming around the corner in their lives. Throughout their journey they experienced seasons of joy, laughter, hurt, confusion and hopelessness. They must have grown closer together through these times, as they had to be compassionate, comforting, and encouraging to one another. Yet as their story unfolds and they seem to find direction and strength.
Through difficult times Naomi returned home where they met Boaz. One who would be a redeemer and guardian for Ruth and Naomi. One who would turn things around, redirect their paths and bring hope. Ruth and Nomi were blessed and their blessing influenced generations to follow. Through their genealogy came Jesse, King David, and eventually Jesus.
This Journey that we are all on takes twist and turns that at times can leave us perplexed and even at a loss for words. God nonetheless gives us direction through His Spirit and His Word. It can work like a flashlight in times of darkness and disillusionment. Our perspective can be altered due to faith and the knowledge that it will be work out in time because He is with us.
Over the last few weeks my sister has gone to be with her Lord, and I have had a number of friends suffer great loss throughout this year. I would like to encourage you with this text found in Matthew 11:28-29 in it Jesus says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
God intervened in the lives of Ruth, Naomi and Boaz and he is still intervening in lives today. Life can be extremely difficult at times but take heart in this one statement “we can overcome” through Christ. We can persevere and we can make it, God is still redeeming lives and times.
Richest Blessings
Pastor Dave.
