One of the first lessons we are taught as children is the virtue of kindness. Kindness is defined as one who is friendly, generous, and considerate of others. However, as we get older in life and experience the hardness of the world we can easily lose sight of this virtue.
This challenge is to show kindness to those you encounter this month. A good place to start is reflecting upon what kindness means to you. One may ask how do I treat others with kindness or how do I speak about others when they are not present. After some time of self-care and reflection it’s time to be deliberate.
Show kindness to others over the next 30 days setting aside biases, opinions, and anything else that can hold us back from acting. Pass along an encouraging word, hold the door open for someone, or return a cart for someone at the store. Modeling kindness can be contagious and can put a small on your face and those you are kind do.
“Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate.” -Albert Schweitzer
