“One of the teachers of the law came and heard the Sadducees arguing. He noticed that Jesus had given the Sadducees a good answer. So he asked him, “Which is the most important of all the commandments?” Jesus answered, “Here is the most important one. Moses said, ‘Israel, listen to me. The Lord is our God. The Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind and with all your strength.’ And here is the second one. ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ There is no commandment more important than these.”
(Mark 12:28-31)
Football season has arrived once again and I as well as many others have gotten caught up in all the excitement. The season started and as fans we all anticipate our teams to do well. So far we have seen wins and losses and a referee strike that has thankfully come to an end. Something that I have noticed this year is how intense we all get when it comes to our teams. We block out time for games, sacrifice finances and keep up with the latest stats. Don’t get me wrong I am all about my teams and sports but I have just noticed how much of ourselves that we can commit to these things.
My thought for today is simply this, how much of our selves do we give to God. Are we aware of His involvement in our lives and that he cares. Do we in return with a passion and zeal love Him and acknowledge Him? Are we involved in the things that God views as priority? Do others know who I serve and why I serve Him? Do those around me understand Gods love because they know me?
Self-reflection is a healthy practice, people know my favorite team. I wear the Jersey; have the hat, and the decal for the car. Do they know however whom I serve. Take time today strengthen your relationship with God and influence a life and effect eternity today.
