Empathy

One of my favorite Love and Logic quotes is “Empathy opens the heart and mind to learning” (Dr. Charles Fay). Empathy is one of the most misunderstood skills to learn for most people. I like to encourage people to start their understanding of “empathy” by defining what it means in comparison to “sympathy’. Empathy is intentionally listening for the feeling that someone else is communicating. We listens for feeling but then in our normal communication we use empathy to let another person know that we hear them and we care. Take time to learn more about this skill and see what a benefit it can be to your life and relationships.
