"Deny Yourself"

This post comes from the book “The Bondage Breaker by Neil Anderson”: Denying yourself is not the same as self-denial. Every student, athlete, and cult member practices self denial, restricting themselves from substances and activities which keep them from reaching their goals. But the ultimate purpose of that kind of self denial is self promotion: to receive the top grade, to break the record, to achieve status and recognition…. To deny ourselves is to deny self rule…. You were not designed to function independent of God, nor was our soul designed to function as a master. ‘No one can serve two masters” (Matt 6:24). When you deny yourself, you invite God to take throne of your life, to occupy what is rightfully his, so that you may function as a person who is spiritually alive in Christ. Denying yourself is essential to spiritual freedom.
