Our son Nathan has struggled for years with his hearing When he was a year old he started getting ear infections, when I say he started I mean it was continuous. I know many parents who could probably relate to this with their children. Our little guy has had to date three surgeries to remedy his ear infections. As parents seeing our little guy fine during the day and when night time fell he would be holding his head in excruciating pain. It was difficult. As a parent, I felt helpless at times. Thank the Lord though the surgeries have helped, his infections are beginning to not come as frequently. I share this story because of one of the after effects of the infections. In the early years of development when sound and speech were developing Nathan’s hearing had muffled sounds due to his infections. I guess the best way to explain it would be, when he was listening to someone it was as if he had ear plugs in his ears. As parents we never realized it until later when he started to speak. As he started making sentences we noticed he had trouble saying words correctly. A specialist put it this way. “He is pronouncing it the way he has heard it for years.” When we discovered the problem we became pro-active and began to pray and bring solution to help our little guy. Thank the Lord he is doing better everyday. As Christ-Follower’s a key ingredient to living a life in focus is to enhance our communication with God. We can go to church weekly, teach a class, or do a lot of good for others. These things unfortunately are not signs of good communication with God. Without good, two way daily conversation with God we will not hear clearly, and struggle through life. Become pro-active and enhance your communication with God. Read the Word daily, then as soon as you are done ask God what he is trying to tell you. Process it and meditate on it. This will enhance your communication with God, and help you hear things clearly and you live the life of a Christ -Follower. Another suggestion is to begin to journal, noting the results of your times with God. This will also enhance your time with God.
“I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.
I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.” Psalm 119:10-16
