This Sunday I heard an awesome message that was entitled “Alters or Monuments”. It made me truly reflect upon characters in scripture who served God and in pivotal times in their lives had to make a decision. The decision if they would continue to serve and acknowledge God or would they begin to take all the credit and build themselves up. It is amazing how we can read these awesome passages in Gods Word and fail to learn from them ourselves. We gain such great knowledge of the bible story, and its points but we leave it there. We fail to apply the life lessons to our lives. The fact is David, Saul, Nehemiah, Isaiah, etc. all had decisions to make just as we do. The decision to follow God and acknowledge him or to build themselves up. Joshua made a declaration to a nation by stating”as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Jacob wrestled with God and it transformed his life so much so that he built an alter acknowledging what God had done. A reminder, marker, to commemorate what God had done. In our life’s journey are we building alters to commemorate what God has done, are we able to say when people stroke our pride “look what the Lord has done” or do we take the credit. As we live life together remember we will all have to make the decision of either building alters or monuments. We will also one day give an account one day will your life’s journey be filled with alters or monuments?
James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says…”
