Be the Church

When did Christianity become about church attendance? As if attending church is all we need to successfully navigate life. Church is more than lights, buildings, services and family traditions. Jesus came to earth, lived the life of a carpenter and modeled what authentic relationship with God and others should look like. He was committed to fulfilling the will of the father, he was committed to carrying the sin and eternal suffering that we all deserve to the cross. Jesus resurrection and sacrifice opened the door for all of creation to have authentic relationship with God and authentic community with others. Common unity of faith in Jesus takes us past just attending church and challenges us to be the church.

We are not created to live isolated lives separated from others. We are created to be in relationship with God and those around us. Proclaiming in action and word the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The temptation for many is to live separate from others and to live life focusing on our own needs, wants and desires. That’s the problem when we isolate ourselves from others, we place ourselves on a solitary island separated from others and even God over time.

Take time this week to evaluate what church means to you. What would your life look like if you moved from going to church to being the church? What would a healthy relationship with almighty God change your life, family and place of employment.
