“I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. “
1 Samuel 1:27
Christmas is only a few days away, and for many children in neighborhoods all around the nation and the globe there is the anticipation of presents. They can’t wait to hopefully get the items they asked and prayed for.
In the book of first Samuel I find one of my favorite stories. It is the story of Hannah the mother of Samuel the prophet. In this story we learn of a woman who wanted to have a child. She prayed with purpose even to the mockery of others for her hearts desire. She believed that no matter what her limitations were with God all things were possible. As time passed the Lord answered her prayer and she named her son Samuel. What I find interesting though is what she did after Samuel was born. She recognized that God answered her request, fulfilled her hearts desire, and she gave her son into the Lords service. She said “So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.”(1Samuel 1:29).
Over the years I can reflect upon so many occasions when a need was present, a crisis was at hand, or a want and desire consumed my heart and mind. I remember asking and passionately praying for breakthrough. As the Lord came through I remember the many times I would share the story with those around me. To some it might have seemed menial at times or non-important but to me it was Gods fulfilled promise it was His answer.
This Christmas we may get some or all that we desire, no matter what though have a attitude of gratitude. Reflect upon the times you prayed hard and some how God brought you through. Be thankful for all that you have, cherish it, and don’t take it for granted. Share your thoughts with your family and let them learn the importance of being thankful no matter what you get.
Richest Blessings,
Pastor Dave
