“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.” -2 Corinthians 7:10 (NIV) A number of years ago I had to take a course that was a pre-requisite so that I could become a Certified Nursing Assistant, also known as a CNA. After taking the course, I became a “germ phobic”. I would have to admit that class messed me up. Subsequently, I have to take a refresher every year so that I am up-to-date on the latest germs and preventative precautions. Knowing what’s out there and how to protect oneself is what the class was all about. In our text today, we learn about repentance. When we reflect upon our lives in light of what God had to sacrifice for us we are humbled and brought to sorrow. Sorrow, in that the Son of God had to pay such a heinous price because of us. He knew how sick we were and he did what needed to be done, so that we could be made healthy again. If you know something can make you sick you stay away from it. Repentance is acknowledging your actions. Your part is confessing that you made unhealthy choices. It’s then allowing Jesus to bring the cure that will purge and cleanse your life. Father God, in the name of Jesus, I confess that I have made unhealthy choices in my life. I regret them and they made me ill. I ask you to help me learn from this, and I ask you to forgive me for my actions. Thank you for the cross and the price you paid. Amen. – DR
